Marginalized and returning residents often face a steep uphill climb when reintegrating into society. Many struggle with gaps in education, limited job skills, or a lack of positive role models. To address this, AAFA conducts life skills development training led by an interdisciplinary team of professionals. These trainings focus on essential skills such as financial literacy, conflict resolution, effective communication, parenting strategies, decision-making, and career readiness.
AAFA recognizes that one of the greatest barriers to success is unaddressed trauma. Many individuals have histories marked by exposure to violence, substance abuse, neglect, or systemic oppression. To break this cycle, AAFA offers both group and individual counseling for participants and their families. Participants can also access our community emergency line for immediate mental health assistance and referrals to additional resources. This 24/7 safety net ensures that no one has to face a crisis alone. (773) 842-2873.
AAFA understands that sustainability requires collaboration. We actively partner with Greater Opportunities, Inc. Through this partnership, AAFA participants gain access to career training and certification opportunities in the allied health field.
AAFA’s programming is structured around a weekly cadence of workshops and trainings. Depending on enrollment and participant needs, sessions are held at 4-5 days per week. These sessions blend classroom-style learning with interactive exercises, role-playing scenarios, and group discussions. Key components of weekly programming include:
1. Life Skills Training.
2. Trauma-Informed Counseling.
3. Mental Health Support.
4. Vocational Readiness Training:
5. Faith-Based Support and Mentorship
