Founded in 1991 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1992, the African American Family Association (AAFA) exists to strengthen at-risk communities through family, faith, compassion, and equity. We believe that transformation is possible when people are supported holistically, recognizing not just the individual, but the family and community that surround them. AAFA provides a continuum of services, including individual and family counseling, life skills training, vocational training opportunities and connections to mental health support. These activities are designed to abet violence prevention, nurture re-entry success, economic growth, and long-term stability for marginalized individuals. At the heart of our work is the conviction that no two journeys are alike, and that real change comes from centering each person’s unique needs and lived experience. For more than three decades, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to giving a hand up to at-risk individuals, strengthen families, create healthier communities, and pathways of promise for all those we serve.
